ROSES OF VIOLENCE

They promised freedom from day one
Way before the election was won
Renewed hope in the chosen one...
Alas, in God we trust

An observer in all their madness
Hoping the best man wins
Picked no sides in their contest
But unity should always come first

Been years we began running
The price of things haven't stopped running
Like an infant leaking diarrhoea
The supreme promises keep falling flat

The previous man was a herdsman
Treated men like cattle and made life difficult
This one is a tycoon, he lifted all restrictions
Then made the masses pay for it—

Through the nose, through the anus
This someone who promised citrus..
The silence of the lambs, the roar of the lion
O, let the dogs out!

Let them bark and keep barking
At this curious case that frankly
Springs up roses of violence in the land
Brash and violent with all their prickly thorns

The chosen ones plunder the nation in turns
Raping and pillaging without any remorse
See the land on fire, and truly it burns
But it's business as usual; true to form

The land of hope is being deformed
Those who predicted are quick to inform
Renewed hope in session, but in God
We'll be fine as always, of course...

IT IS A TERRIBLE THING TO NOT KNOW HOW GREAT YOU ARE

Hello, and welcome to Haven Incorporated. This is the very first post minted in our press, and hopefully the continuation of something great. We hope you find value in this space and find it a place to stay. It's indeed a terrible thing to not know how great one is. Usually, we hear warnings to desist from pride and cease from arrogance, that pride goes before an unpleasant fall and humility comes before honour. But having a healthy sense of self and worth is not as emphasised. And I dare say, it's better to be proud than falsely humble! Just tonight, I saw a man who didn't know how great he was, and it pierced my heart to see him so. Maybe he knew, but only humbled himself for the moment, but I didn't think it necessary for him to have done so. But it's terrible to not know how great you are! It occurred to me that culture and tradition, perhaps, makes us stagnant and backwards in the face of progress. It is true that we learn great virtue and core values from our...

THE MAN WHO LOST ALL HOPE

This is the story of a boy who couldn't cope But there was a man who gave him some hope With love, he washed him like soap Till the depressed was full of hope. This is the story of the boy who couldn't cope Till a man came and gave him some hope. But, then, we heard he died; That is, the man who gave him some hope. But how did he die? We heard he took his own life Because he, too, couldn't cope... It's indeed strange, how some of the most friendly and helpful people in the world have deep struggles they share with no one, how despite giving hope to others, they end up taking their own lives, or keep suffering in silence. It's a deep tragedy indeed. Let's also take out time to give joy to those who always do their best to make us happy. © tokede el-iyanu 2021

THE STORY A PROFESSOR TOLD ME

A story my professor told me, A new way of life, it showed me; Those who are wise will hold this, For every man needs to know this. And so he said to me: A man came to him in need, Sir, I need your help to feed: My dear sir, please... But this wasn't the first, And surely won't be last, Professor thought to himself: We can't keep doing this. And, so, Professor said to him: I, as well, I am in need, You see, my car, I need to clean, And you, you need to feed, Can we consider it a deal? And the man thought it wise a thing. Indeed, it was wise a thing; To be paid as much as kings— Where do you find such a thing? Wise, if you know what that means! As the man washed Professor's car, Some also needed to clean theirs, So the man washed their cars, And also cleaned his scars, For a beggar's soul is scarred. Now, he doesn't need to beg; The wise will learn a lesson, In a story filled with lessons. A word is enough for the wise, Or for those who want to be wise.. ...
