DOGS, PIGS, LEECHES, AND THE GOLDEN RULE

THE GOLDEN RULE

The Golden Rule is one of the most well-known moral teachings of Christ. It encapsulates how people should treat others. It says: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (Matthew 7:12, Luke 6:31).

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you...” Sometimes, we find ourselves holding on to this ideal well after people have abused that notion, and made a complete mockery of what we believe in.

We find ourselves holding onto the Word of God, and treating people better than they deserve, simply because we hold ourselves in high esteem, and treat people exactly how we want to be treated, yet there are times we get the complete opposite of what we invest in.

Don't you wonder what the right thing to do is? Should we keep on treating these kinds of people like we want to be treated, or do we treat them exactly as they treat us?

Should we keep on keeping the peace, or should we go to war? Should we detach for a while, or should we end the relationship, whatever it is? Should we sit to dialogue, or do we call out their baggage for what it is?

A behaviour repeated is a pattern, a repeated pattern is a lifestyle. What does one do in the face of overwhelming evidence? Should we remain faithful to the tenets of Christ, or do we manually adjust our bearings to reflect the present realities?

DOGS AND PIGS
Who is a dog? Or more specifically, what do dogs do? “Do not give what is holy to dogs—they will only turn and attack you." (Matthew 7:6)

Who are pigs and what they do? "Do not throw your pearls in front of pigs—they will only trample them underfoot." (Matthew 7:6)

Pigs trample on precious matters, dogs attack what is sacred. They are a category who do not value what you offer, people who attack you for the love you have for and give to them. They have no regard for The Golden Rule.

Sometimes, confusion keeps our thoughts clouded, sometimes, our pride gives us a reason to keep trying. Sometimes, our ignorance keeps us bound, sometimes, genuine love keeps us going.

AND LEECHES?
They suck the life out of you.

I leave you with words from Solomon to ponder on: Proverbs 30:15 - “The leech has two daughters: Give, Give.”

You keep giving, but never receive. Should one keep pouring into an empty basket?

May we find clarity to proceed, and may God give us the grace to discern the right thing to do.

ICE BREAKER

I'm thinking of our talks with a smile, Although sometimes I'm scared that I cross the line, But you always reassure me that it's fine, Like a fish, I'm always testing the line, Pushing boundaries because you allow, Humorous are you, and mighty kind Talking with you through tough times, I'm sure this relation is God's hand. You've been of help to me, I said I know you'll want to protest— But I'm smiling at a word you said, Far long after it had been said. I cherish the lovely moments we talk; Always waiting to hear from you, Sometimes I'm scared I bother you, But I can't seem to help myself. I wanted to write something happy, But happiness is serious business, And from everyone else You are a little different. But keep the love, keep the purity, When we vibe, there's no insecurity Like one mind, at ease in unity, You're greatly blessed, until infinity! This was supposed to be light, but it's so serious! Shine brightly, dearest Sir...
